Series

Series at The Century Foundation.

  • The Dirty Dozen Tax Breaks
In 2002, The Century Foundation convened the Working Group on Tax Expenditures to examine and propose reforms to the tax code. The resulting report, Bad Breaks All Around, identifies twelve tax breaks with little or no economic justification. These "dirty dozen" are no less ripe for the chopping block a decade later, as Congress finally takes up the task of simplifying the tax code.
  • Century Reads: Books for Thought
Century Reads: Books for Thought is an opportunity for avid readers, public policy mavens and the public to learn about books that are changing the debate, whether the books are from The Century Foundation or not.
  • Graph of the Day
In the Graph of the Day series by The Century Foundation, data will illustrate findings in public policy research.

Working Groups

Working groups of The Century Foundation.

  • Homeland Security and the Public's Need to Know
The Century Foundation, with the support of the Knight Foundation, formed a working group in the summer of 2002 to examine the decisions made by both government and media since the September 11 attacks.
  • U.S. Policy Toward Russia
A set of policy papers intended to assess and critique the policy approaches of recent years and to propose a new framework for approaching U.S.-Russia relations.
  • State Implementation of Election Reform
A nonpartisan group of prominent election law scholars and voting reform experts produced a groundbreaking set of policy recommendations to help state legislators and election officials improve their voting procedures in upcoming federal elections.

Projects

Projects of The Century Foundation.

  • Afghanistan in Its Regional and Multilateral Dimensions
The project featuring an international task force co-chaired by Ambassadors Lakhdar Brahimi and Thomas Pickering, has released its report, Afghanistan: Negotiating Peace. It recommends a political path that might lead to ending the war. TCF received major support for the project from the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and additional support from the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung of Germany and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • The Peter A. A. Berle Environmental Integrity Award
The Century Foundation, in cooperation with the National Audubon Society, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Environmental Defense Fund, the Environmental Law Section of the New York State Bar Association, and former colleagues of Peter A. A. Berle, created an award intended to recognize environmental integrity demonstrated by public officials and private citizens in the United States. Peter A.A. Berle was a Century Foundation trustee.
  • Iran White Papers
In Summer 2006, in response to concerns over the direction of Iran’s nuclear program, TCF commissioned a number of expert papers and convened a set of meetings to assess realistically the issues, risks, and opportunities at hand. The debate on U.S. policy toward Iran often turns on imperfectly informed assumptions. These white papers subject some of these assumptions to rigorous scrutiny and incisive analysis—and in doing so suggest some new options.
